Scope
The principal CIE framework for road-lighting design serving the driver's visual task, and the basis for many national and regional road-lighting standards. Provides a structured model for selecting lighting classes (M for motorised traffic, C for conflict areas, P for pedestrian areas) on a luminance or illuminance basis, accounting for the visual-task parameters relevant to drivers. Introduces adaptive (time-varying) lighting keyed to traffic volume and weather. Revises CIE 115-1995. A rapid revision is in progress.
