Scope

Recommended Practice presenting human-factors-based design recommendations for the direction-of-motion of hand controls in passenger vehicles, MPVs, and trucks so that control motion matches the controlled element's motion, based on perceptual-motor compatibility (population stereotypes). Violating direction-of-motion stereotypes increases actuation errors, operating time, and driver workload.
