Scope

Approval of adaptive front-lighting systems (AFS) for vehicles of categories M and N, which automatically vary the headlamp beam pattern (e.g. town, motorway, adverse-weather, bending-light and glare-free high-beam modes) according to driving conditions. Governs how the illuminated scene presented to the driver changes with speed, steering and oncoming traffic, balancing forward visibility against glare to others. Performance for new types is now also covered by R149.
