Scope
Voluntary industry safety principles for driver monitoring systems on vehicles equipped with Level 2 automated driving assist features (simultaneous lane centering and adaptive cruise control). Addresses consumer information / system naming, driver monitoring as a standard feature that cannot be disabled while the Level 2 feature is engaged, detection/inference of driver non-engagement, an initial warning followed by escalating warnings combining visual and non-visual (auditory or haptic) alerts, re-engagement of the driver, corrective action on no response (e.g., disengage the Level 2 system, increase ACC headway, or come to a safe stop), evaluation of misuse and abuse during design, and further consideration of in-vehicle camera-based monitoring.
