Scope
Specifies the transmission shift position sequence, a starter interlock, and a braking effect of automatic transmissions, to reduce shifting errors. The standard requires that the transmission shift positions be displayed in view of the driver. The driver-facing element is the standardized shift-position sequence and its required display/identification, which reduce driver mode-selection (gear) errors at the control interface.
