Scope

Specifies the physical principles of design, the ergonomic requirements and the corresponding test methods for auditory danger signals, and gives guidelines for their design. Sets criteria for the recognition of danger signals, especially under high ambient noise (the A-weighted level must not be below 65 dB and must distinctly exceed the masked threshold). Foundational for in-vehicle auditory warning design; does not cover verbal/speech warnings (see ISO 9921).
