Scope
Approval of front/rear position lamps, stop-lamps and end-outline marker lamps for motor vehicles (except motorcycles) and their trailers. Specifies luminous intensity, colour and geometry, governing how clearly a following driver perceives a vehicle's presence, width and braking. The stop-lamp in particular is the primary braking signal preceding-vehicle drivers respond to. Performance for new types is now also covered by R148.
