Scope
Globally harmonised UN Global Technical Regulation (adopted 26 June 2008) establishing performance requirements and test procedures for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems on light vehicles (up to 4,536 kg GVW). ESC automatically applies individual-wheel braking and modulates engine torque to counter understeer/oversteer at the limit of grip, intervening when the driver's steering input and the vehicle's actual yaw diverge. Driver-relevant as the active-safety system that compensates for loss-of-control error; includes a driver malfunction tell-tale and off-switch provisions.
