The drivers were divided into two groups based on their shift times: morning (07:00–09:00 WIB) and evening (16:00–18:00 WIB). The SART questionnaire assessed three main components: Demand (attention resource requirements such as situation instability and complexity), Supply (attention resource availability including attention distribution and mental capacity), and Understanding (comprehension of the situation). Data were processed using the formula SA = Understanding – (Demand – Supply). Statistical analysis involved Shapiro-Wilk tests for normality and independent sample t-tests to compare SA levels between the two shifts. The results indicated that the average age of morning shift drivers was 34 years, while evening shift drivers averaged 32 years, with both groups having an average tenure of three years. The mean SA score for morning shift drivers was 19.00, whereas evening shift drivers scored 17.29. Detailed analysis revealed that morning drivers had lower demand scores, particularly in attention distribution, suggesting higher concentration needs. Evening drivers exhibited higher demand scores, indicating greater cognitive load during that period. However, statistical testing showed no significant difference between the two groups (t-test p-value = 0.213, which is greater than 0.05). Although the mean SA was higher for morning drivers, the difference was not statistically significant. The study concludes that while morning shift drivers demonstrated slightly higher Situation Awareness scores, the difference between morning and evening shifts is not statistically significant. This suggests that BRT drivers maintain relatively stable cognitive performance across different peak traffic periods. However, the higher demand scores in the evening shift imply that drivers face greater cognitive challenges during that time, potentially increasing accident risk due to fatigue or environmental factors. The findings underscore the importance of maintaining driver fitness and awareness regardless of shift time, as cognitive load varies but overall awareness capacity remains consistent. This research contributes to the field of industrial engineering and transportation safety by providing empirical data on the cognitive ergonomics of BRT drivers, informing strategies to reduce human error-related accidents.
