The findings confirm that BDWS improve driver behavior and safety performance at bridges during winter conditions. The study recommends continued implementation of BDWS, specifically favoring flashing LED borders over beacons and incorporating DSFS for enhanced conspicuity. The research provides detailed guidelines for site selection, equipment specifications, and messaging strategies to optimize future deployments. These recommendations aim to help transportation agencies like MDOT prioritize high-risk bridges and effectively utilize active warning technologies to mitigate winter crash risks.
