Scope

Industry consensus guidelines (the 'Alliance Driver Focus' / 'DF-T' guidelines, June 26, 2006 update) addressing driver distraction from in-vehicle information and communication (telematics) systems with visual-manual interfaces intended for use while the vehicle is in motion. Organized into five principles (installation; information presentation; interface with displays and controls; system behavior; information about the system) with associated criteria and verification procedures, including occlusion-based testing and metrics such as single-glance duration (generally not to exceed 2 s) and total task glance time (not to exceed 20 s). Applies to OEM, aftermarket, and nomadic/portable systems.
