Scope

Updates the European Statement of Principles (ESoP) summarising essential safe-design and safe-use aspects of the human-machine interface (HMI) for in-vehicle information and communication systems. Covers design goals, installation principles, information-presentation principles, interaction with displays and controls, and system behaviour, applied to OEM, after-market and nomadic (portable) systems. The 2008 update strengthens treatment of nomadic devices and driver distraction. Notified under C(2008) 1742; published in OJ L 216, 12.8.2008.
