Scope
Specifies requirements to reduce deaths and injuries that occur when the driver lacks a clear, unobstructed view to the rear. Covers inside and outside rearview mirrors and, per the 2014 rule (phase-in completed May 2018), rear visibility (backup) camera systems, including field of view, image size, response time, durability and default activation (49 CFR 571.111).
