Scope
Recommended Practice establishing which navigation and route-guidance functions should be accessible to the driver while the vehicle is in motion. Provides a static method and an interrupted-vision method; codifies the 15-second rule (visual-manual navigation tasks measured statically that exceed 15 s should be locked out while driving). Applies only to visual presentation and manual control inputs for OEM and aftermarket navigation systems on passenger vehicles; excludes voice-activated controls and route-following monitoring tasks.
