Post-Crash Behavior & Response

Work on what happens after impact: driver and occupant actions at the scene, follow-on collisions, getting out of the vehicle, and delays in care.

What's here. Holds driver_post_crash_behavior (what drivers and occupants do once the crash has occurred) and secondary_collisions (later impacts involving traffic arriving on an existing crash or stopped vehicle). Also holds evacuation_egress, on leaving the vehicle and the crash site, and post_crash_care_delays, covering the interval from crash to notification, emergency response, and arrival at care.

What isn't here.

• everything upstream of impact — the contributing factors, near-crash events, and in-depth investigation of why the crash happened — Crash Causation & Contributing Factors. The dividing line for this category is the impact itself. Causation work is a separate shelf and the two co-occur often, so check both if your topic spans the crash moment.
• injury and fatality counts, rates, disparities, and time trends — Crash Statistics & Epidemiology. This is the sibling category in the same research area. Response and aftermath behavior sits here; the epidemiology of crash outcomes sits there.
• seat belt and child restraint use — Occupant Protection Behavior. Restraint behavior is treated as in-crash injury mitigation and shelves separately, even though egress research frequently touches restraints.
