sensation seeking

Sensation seeking as a personality trait (Zuckerman): the stable disposition toward novel, varied, and intense experiences and the willingness to take risks to attain them — thrill and adventure seeking, experience seeking, disinhibition, boredom susceptibility, as expressed in fast or stimulating driving. The dispositional trait/motive, distinct from risk_taking, which is the situational decision to accept a specific hazard, and from aggressive_driving, which is hostile overt conduct; sensation_seeking explains why a driver is drawn to risk rather than the act of risking.
