Statistical modeling confirmed that signal indication type was a significant predictor of driver behavior, with the FYA promoting the highest rates of correct responses. The findings suggest that transportation agencies can enhance pedestrian safety and intersection efficiency by implementing the FYA display for permissive right turns, particularly in exclusive right-turn lanes with high pedestrian volumes. The FYA provides a clearer cue for drivers to yield, reducing conflicts with pedestrians compared to the ambiguous Circular Green signal. Additionally, the poor comprehension of the SRA highlights a need for better driver education or signal standardization to ensure consistent interpretation of red arrow indications. This study provides empirical evidence supporting the expansion of FYA usage beyond left-turn operations to improve overall intersection safety.
