sustained attention vigilance

Sustained attention and vigilance: the vigilance decrement over time on watch, signal detection during prolonged monitoring, sustained-attention-to-response tasks (SART), mindlessness versus resource-depletion accounts, and vigilance taxonomies (Parasuraman, Warm). The foundational watchkeeping construct, distinct from vigilance under fatigue (alertness loss from sleep pressure); here the decrement arises from monitoring demands themselves, not from sleepiness.
