vigilance

Vigilance and the sustained-attention decrement in driving: the decline in detecting rare, infrequent events (a hazard, lead-vehicle braking) over a long monotonous drive. Sustained monitoring of low-event environments and the vigilance decrement — an attentional failure, distinct from sleepiness (drowsiness), discrete sleep events (microsleep), and prior sleep loss (sleep_deprivation).
