mind wandering

Mind wandering and internal distraction: task-unrelated thought during driving, daydreaming behind the wheel, self-generated thought and its costs to monitoring and hazard response, probe-caught and self-caught mind wandering measures, and attention lapses arising from within rather than from any external or device source. The internal-distraction construct, distinct from cognitive distraction by a secondary task (cognitive) and from drowsiness (a fatigue state, not engaged thought elsewhere).
