external distraction

Distraction from sources outside the vehicle: roadside advertising and digital billboards, electronic signage, scenery and crash gawking, roadside activity, and attention drawn away from the road by the external environment rather than by in-vehicle devices or tasks. The outside-the-cab distraction source, distinct from visual or visual_manual distraction by in-vehicle tasks (mobile_phones, infotainment) and from sign_visibility_legibility (whether official signs can be read, not whether commercial signs distract).
