hazard perception

Hazard perception: the ability to detect, recognize, and respond to developing dangers in the traffic scene before they become critical, typically assessed with video-based hazard perception tests and time-to-respond latencies. The detection-and-recognition of an EXISTING or emerging threat, distinct from anticipation (predicting events and others' behavior that are not yet present), looked_but_failed_to_see (a failure to perceive a hazard despite directing the eyes at it), and useful_field_of_view (the spatial extent of processing rather than threat recognition).
