useful field of view

Useful Field of View (UFOV): the visual field area over which a driver can extract and process information in a single brief glance without head or eye movements, indexed by the standardized UFOV test (processing speed, divided attention, selective attention subtests). A bounded measure of attentional breadth and speed, distinct from peripheral_attention (the everyday covert use of peripheral vision rather than a clinical test), eye_movements_scanning (free oculomotor exploration), and hazard_perception (which targets detection of developing dangers, not field extent).
